Trending: What Are SA Retailers Doing This Mother’s Day?

Updated: May 17, 2022

As shopper marketers, occasions are important because they are one of the few times that baskets and budgets expand, and shoppers are willing to look outside their usual categories.

With Mother’s Day approaching, we wanted to find out how marketers are celebrating the amazing women who have and continue to carry our country on their backs, and how they are leveraging the occasion to broaden their reach.

Digital brands like Takealot and NetFlorist have created ease-of-shop categories, but there are a few retailers who have taken it a step further.

Clicks

When it comes to gift-giving Clicks is all about delivering a frictionless experience for their customers, offering occasion-specific prepackaged gifts to greet you right upon entering the store. So, if you’re really struggling with gift ideas, Clicks is always available as a first and last resort.

Foschini

The TFG Group’s retailers never fail to show love to one of their biggest demographics, SA moms. This time around, they’re rolling out the spoils with deals that include 25% off all fragrances, as well as a gift guide and digital discounts of up to 50% on their exclusive clothing, sleepwear, and shoe brands.

Miladys

A clothing retailer that is very popular with moms countrywide is Miladys and they are offering shoppers free Mother’s Day gift vouchers of up to R400 when your total spend exceeds the stipulated amount, allowing shoppers to purchase items for themselves and mom, or double up on the Mother’s Day spoils.

Adidas

With a somewhat similar mechanic as Miladys, albeit framed as a discount rather than a voucher, sports retailer Adidas put together a Mother’s Day gift guide, including R300 off your total spend, if it exceeds R1000.

ORMS Camera Store

ORMS went all out this year, running a competition for a Mother’s Day hamper prize valued at R130 000. Additionally, they have compiled gift, activity, and Instagram photography guides to help their shoppers create a holistically special experience to honour the moms in their lives.

Pick n Pay

One of SA’s biggest retailers is showing love to moms this year with a discount and digital giveaway combo. An Aim air fryer valued at R1800 to help alleviate the strain of the soaring cooking oil prices is up for grabs for shoppers who share one of their mom’s recipes, in addition to a 20% discount off activewear, knitwear, and sleepwear for Mother’s Day gift shopping.
